Undergraduate Business Scholarships

In addition to the scholarships administered by the GVSU Financial Aid Office, the Seidman College of Business offers many scholarships specific to business students. You may obtain more information on each of the scholarships listed below from the Seidman Undergraduate Student Services Office. You may also obtain Accounting scholarship information through the Accounting & Taxation Department at 331-7190.

Accounting Alumni Scholarship
Each year several scholarships of $500 to $1,000 are awarded by the accounting alumni to accounting majors at the junior level.

American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) Scholarship
Each year a $600 scholarship is given to an undergraduate or graduate student interested in production and inventory control. This student is selected on the basis of scholarship and financial need. The award is provided by the Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society.

Newton D. Becker Scholarship Award
Each spring a graduating senior in the accounting program is given a scholarship to attend the Becker C.P.A. review course.

BOMA Scholarship
This scholarship provides $1000 award to an undergraduate business student who is a business economics real estate major or has an interest in a real estate or a real estate related career. To be eligible, applicants must be full-time students who have completed the junior year with a minimum overall 3.0 GPA. Applications can be found on-line and must be submitted by February 15.  The recipient is selected by the Seidman College of Business.

Business Study Abroad Scholarship globe
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support to undergraduate and graduate students of business who enhance their university studies by studying in a foreign country. Awards are based on program costs and financial need. Applications can be found on-line and must be submitted for Spring/Summer, Fall & Academic Year study abroad by April 1.  For Winter study abroad applicants, the application must be submitted by November 1.

The Barry Castro Endowed Scholarship for Business Ethics
This scholarship provides assistance to degree-seeking College of Business students who demonstrate a commitment to understanding the issues and questions posed by a serious study of business ethics. To qualify, candidates must be entering their junior year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Additional information and applications can be found on-line. Applications must be submitted by February 1 and are renewable for up to three additional semesters.  

The Economic Club of Grand Rapids globe
Business study abroad scholarship grant awards of up to $2,500 are available for two students pursuing a business degree. Requirements are a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and at least a sophomore standing. Residents of Kent, Allegan, Ottawa, or Muskegon counties for three years prior to application OR Resident students at a public college or university in West Michigan for at least two years prior to application (consecutive). Foreign study program must be endorsed and accepted as part of or as a credit course in the applicants degree. Applications available in the International Business Programs Advisor''s office, 115B DeVos. Applications are available on-line.

Richard H. Giles Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to senior, full-time, degree-seeking students who show promise of making outstanding contributions in the field of accounting. Graduate recipients, selected on the basis of outstanding academic potential, interest in accounting, and financial need, receive tuition for two semesters. Undergraduate recipients receive academic year tuition scholarships for their senior year only.

Earl Harper Management Scholarship
Each year one $500 scholarship is awarded to an African-American management major. Qualified students must have earned a minimum of a 2.5 GPA after completing 15 credits at GVSU. The recipient is selected by the Minority Advisory Council.

Hilda C. Holder Scholarship
This scholarship provides assistance to undergraduate or graduate female business degree-seeking students.  To qualify, candidates must be females entering their junior or senior undergraduate academic year with a minimum of 55 credit hours or be engaged in graduate-level studies with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better (4.0 system).  Candidates must demonstrate financial need and be making satisfactory academic progress according to the norms established by the University.  Applications can be found on-line and must be submitted by February 1, annually. 

J.C. Huizenga Business Scholarship
This scholarship provides assistance to financially needy undergraduate or graduate business degree-seeking students.  As long as initial recipients continue to meet the criteria below this scholarship will renew without reapplication for an additional five (5) semesters.  Applications can be found on-line and must be submitted by February 1, annually.


Jurries Family Scholarship
This scholarship provides $750 per semester assistance to financially needy undergraduate students who are working toward a business degree. Preference will be given to business majors who are also pursuing a minor in entrepreneurship. Applicants must have at least 55 credits and be at the junior level. Candidates must be enrolled in the Seidman College of Business as a declared and admitted business degree-seeking student carrying a full time course load (12 credit hrs.)  Applications can be found on-line and must be submitted by September 15, 2009.

Hungerford, Aldrin, Nichols & Carter, P.C. Accounting Scholarship
Each year the firm awards one $2,000 scholarship to a full-time student who is either a junior a senior accounting major and has expressed an interest in a career in public accounting in West Michigan. Contact the Accounting Department for more information.

Japan Center for Michigan Universities Scholarships  globe
A variety 
of scholarships are available! JCMU Incentive Grants offered to the first forty Michigan students who apply. Summer or academic year programs only. See the Padnos International Center for details and application.

The Jack J. Korff  Scholarship
This scholarship, initiated by Jack J. Korff, provides awards to Seidman College of Business students who major in Finance.  Entering junior year students with a 3.00 GPA and who demonstrate financial need are eligible.   

Krakow University of Economics Scholarship (Krakow, Poland)

GVSU student participating in the winter semester program, "Poland - Economy in Transition," receive a scholarship. Scholarships covers room, board, books, and a monthly stipend in Polish currency. See the Padnos International Center for details and application.

L.V. Eberhard Business Scholarship
One or two $1,000 renewable scholarships are given each year to entering freshmen majoring in a business field. Applicants must have a 3.5 grade point average and a 29 ACT composite score. For renewal, students must maintain a 3.0 after 25 credits, 3.25 after 55 credits, 3.5 after 85 credits. Recipients are selected by the Seidman College of Business. The deadline is March 1, annually and forms are available on-line and in the Seidman Undergraduate Advising Office.

Secchia Scholarships globe
The "Secchia Scholars" program includes the Secchia-John Cabot University Merit Scholarship and the Economic Club of Grand Rapids Secchia Scholarship. These scholarships are for West Michigan students and residents planning to study at John Cabot University and Rome. For more information click on the above links.

The Steelcase Inc. Seidman School of Business Diversity Scholarship
This scholarship is created by Steelcase, Inc. to advance and support the person of color in their pursuit of an undergraduate degree from the Seidman College of Business. Undergraduate candidates are eligible to apply for this scholarship beginning with their junior year. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better. Scholarships will be renewed annually without re-application and may be received for up to a total of four semesters provided they continue to meet the qualifications. Scholarship amounts vary. The recipients will be chosen by the Seidman College of Business. The deadline is February 1st annually and forms are available on-line and in the Seidman Undergraduate Advising Office, Multicultural Affairs Office or the Financial Aid Office.


Study Abroad Scholarships  globe
GVSU offers a grant specifically for summer study abroad. Must be accepted into a summer study abroad program. Grants ($200 - $800) are based on financial need only. Degree seeking students only. Students with current FAFSA on file in the Financial Aid Office are automatically considered.

TEI Accounting/Tax Scholarship
The West Michigan Chapter of the Tax Executives Institute (TEI) established a scholarship for undergraduate accounting majors with an interest in tax. To be eligible, students must not be currently affiliated with a CPA firm and must intend to enroll in one or more graduate tax courses before the end of the next school year. Recipients receive up to $1000 ($500 per semester) towards tuition for graduate tax courses. Contact the Accounting Department for more information.

VanderZwaag Business Scholarship
This scholarship provides financial assistance to an undergraduate business degree seeking student entering the senior year of studies in the Seidman College of Business.  Application form can be found on-line and must be submitted by February 1 annually.

The Kathleen B. Vogelsang Scholarship
This scholarship
, initiated by Seidman alumna Kathleen B. Vogelsang (BBA and MBA), provides aid to non-traditional, women students studying in the Seidman College of Business.  Candidates/recipients must maintain a 3.00 GPA and must have prior employment experience. Applications can be found on-line and must be submitted by February 1, annually. 

West Michigan World Trade Association Scholarship globe
For students who have never studied abroad and intend to participate in semester-long programs with a business focus. Awards up to $1000 are available--based on program costs and financial need. Applications are available in mid-February from http://www.wmwta.org for the following academic year.

The Robert H. and Barbara Wood Scholarship
This scholarship provides awards to Seidman College of Business students who demonstrate interest in and passion for entrepreneurship. To qualify, candidates must be entering their junior year with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or greater. Applications are available on-line and must be submitted annually by April 15.
