Grand Rapids, MIGrand Rapids is located in southwest Michigan halfway between Detroit and Chicago.

With an estimated 2003 population of 197,800, Grand Rapids is the second largest city in Michigan. The City of Grand Rapids grew 4% in the last decade, the only major urban community in Michigan to do so. The metro region has a population of 1,000,000.

Between 1992 and 2002, Grand Rapids area businesses generated 129,808 new jobs, a growth of 28.6%.

It is served by Spectrum Health (with 2 campuses), DeVos Children's Hospital, Metropolitan Hospital, Mary Free Bed Hospital and Rehabilitation Services, Kent Community Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, Forest View Hospital and Pine Rest Mental Health Services.

Grand Rapids offers a wide range of cultural and entertainment activities including the Grand Rapids Symphony, Broadway Theatre Guild, Opera Grand Rapids, St. Cecilia Music Society, the Grand Rapids Ballet, and other community theatre groups. Grand Rapids is home to three professional sports teams, the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL hockey), the Grand Rapids Rampage (arena football), and West Michigan Whitecaps Baseball.
