Faculty Led Programs

The Seidman College of Business offers two faculty-led study abroad programs: POLAND - A four week program held April-May; and ENGLAND - a five week program held June-July. For a complete list of GVSU faculty-led programs, visit the Padnos International Center webpage.

Poland

Study Abroad StudentsCome to Krakow! Live and travel in central Europe. Study and have fun for 6 weeks in Krakow. Students comprise 10% of the population of Krakow making it a lively and energetic city filled with exciting clubs and cultural events. Krakow was named one of the seven Millennium European Cities of Culture in 2000 and is also on the World Heritage list. Krakow has a large medieval market square filled with fresh flower vendors and cafes surrounded by shops, clubs, and restaurants. Live music ranging from jazz to hard rock is available nightly.

Students will explore the rustic mountain town of Zakopane to hike the Tatry mountains bordering Slovakia, and ride rafts down the Dunajec river through the Study Abroad StudentsPieniny Gorge. The movie "Schindler's List" was filmed in Krakow and students will walk the old Jewish quarter in Kazimierz and visit the death camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau.

See the economic miracle in Poland where the command communist economy was successfully transformed into a vigorous entrepreneurial market economy. Poland is the fastest growing mid-to large-size country in Europe since 1994, and is one of the top ten Big Emerging Markets for US exports.

Prerequisites Participation in pre-departure meetings is required. POL 101 recommended, not required.

Eligibility Good academic standing and successful application, including two letters of recommendation.

Academic Credit Students will register for:

  • 3 Cr. BUS 380: The Polish Experience.
  • 3 Cr. PA 372/ECO 380: International and Comparative Administration
    Living Arrangements Students will live in Krakow University dorms.

Dates and Deadlines This 4-week session will be held approximately April 30th through May 25th. Two additional weeks of independent travel is optional. Applications for the program are due in early January. A $150 deposit is due at the time of application. Early application is strongly recommended.

Program Fee The approximate fee for the program is $2,300.00* and includes

  • Round-trip airfare from Grand Rapids
  • Room and partial board for six weeks
  • Excursions to Zakopane and hiking in the Tatry mountains, and historical sightseeing in the Krakow region.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE FEE

  • GVSU Tuition & fees
  • Personal expenses
  • International student ID
  • Passport
  • Textbooks

*Fee subject to adjustments based on actual exchange rates and international airfare.

Financial Aid ALL students considering study abroad should have their financial aid reevaluated regardless of whether they are currently receiving federal aid. Additional need-based study abroad grants are also available to eligible students. Early application for financial aid is strongly recommended.

England

Students in LondonThe goal for this program is to offer students the opportunity to study the effect of culture and history on business dealings in a Western European environment. Student will have lectures and field trips that illustrate the impact a different culture and historical perspective have on business reporting and decision making.

The United Kingdom is entering a new business era with its membership in the European Union. Part of the program will be based in London, the financial center of Western Europe. Visits to London based multinational corporations will be an integral part of the program.

Prerequisites ACC 212

Eligibility Good academic standing and successful application, including two letters of recommendation.

Academic Credit Students may register for up to 6 credits. A combination of the following courses may be available:

  • 3 Cr. ACC 330 International Accounting
  • 3 Cr. MGT 466 International Management and Multinational Corporations
  • 3 Cr. BUS 380 Western European Business Culture
  • 3 Cr. MKT 359 Multinational Marketing

Living Arrangements Program participants will live in the coed student residence halls at Regents College in central London.

Student & ProfessorDates and Deadlines Classes will meet on predetermined dates on the GVSU campus during the spring semester. The 5-week London trip will be held from June - July. An optional trip to Paris will be organized by the faculty leader for an approximate cost of $320. Applications for the program are due in early January. A $150 deposit is due at the time of application. Attendance is required at the pre-departure meetings. There is limited space available, early applications is strongly recommended.

Program Fee The approximate fee for the program is $3,000.00* and includes

  • Round-trip airfare from Grand Rapids
  • Local transport pass
  • Field trips
  • Five-day trip to Scotland
  • Housing in student halls
  • Approximately half of the meals
