Workday Student @ GVSU in 2027!

WHAT IS WORKDAY STUDENT?

Workday Student is the Student Information System (SIS) from Workday that will replace GVSU’s current SIS, Banner Student. Workday Student will complement Workday Platform, our Enterprise Resource Management system which rolled out in January 2024. Find out more about how Workday Student complements Workday Platform.

WHEN IS WORKDAY STUDENT COMING?

We will begin initial work on the Workday Student project in 2024 after the Workday Platform go-live. Workday Student is scheduled to go live in 2027.

WHY WORKDAY STUDENT?

Through Reach Higher 2025, GVSU has committed to an empowered educational experience.  Representatives from the Academic Affairs, Business and Finance, Enrollment Development, Educational Outreach, Financial Aid, and Information Technology divisions participated in a year-long review of Workday Student to ensure that it meets the needs of the university. This allowed for a more thorough vetting of the Student solution, further review with reference peer-institutions, and time to see promised enhancements developed and delivered.

The decision ultimately was based upon our evaluation of the product, our consultation with peer institutions, and our understanding of the current offerings. Additionally, the connectedness of Workday Student to Workday Platform allows for significant efficiencies and synergies.

As part of our commitment to students, we look forward to partnering with Workday to pave the way for the future of Student Information Systems.

WHAT WILL CHANGE?

Workday Student will impact student data and functions currently handled by Banner, including gradebooks, registration, records, and financial aid.

Workday Student will complement, not take the place of, the Blackboard/Blackboard Ultra learning management system (LMS).

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Workday Platform project will continue to be the university's focus through early 2024 following the Workday Platform go-live in January 2024. Widespread Workday Student communications will begin in 2026, while those with involvement in the project will begin to be engaged in 2024 and 2025.
