Workday Student @ GVSU

January 15 Workday Student Project Update

We hosted the first all-faculty and staff Workday Student Project Update on January 15, 2025. Individuals had the chance to learn about what has been designed and decided so far and get an early-stage glimpse of Workday Student. If you were unable to make it, you can view the PowerPoint presentation or the video recording. Watch for more information in the February 3 Workday newsletter.

Still wondering what Workday Student is? View the 'Intro to Workday Student' presentation, which was shared during recent roadshows across the university.

WHAT IS WORKDAY STUDENT?

Workday Student is the Student Information System (SIS) from Workday that will replace GVSU’s current SIS, Banner Student. Workday Student will complement Workday Platform, GVSU's current enterprise management solution. Find out more about how Workday Student complements Workday Platform.

WHAT WILL CHANGE?

Workday Student will impact student data and functions currently handled by Banner, including gradebooks, registration, records, and financial aid.

Workday Student will complement, not take the place of, the Blackboard/Blackboard Ultra learning management system (LMS) or EAB Navigate.

HOW DID WE DECIDE?

Through Reach Higher 2025, GVSU has committed to an empowered educational experience.  Representatives from the Academic Affairs, Business and Finance, Enrollment Development, Educational Outreach, Financial Aid, and Information Technology divisions participated in a year-long review of Workday Student to ensure that it meets the needs of the university. This allowed for a more thorough vetting of the Student solution, further review with reference peer-institutions, and time to see promised enhancements developed and delivered.

The decision ultimately was based upon our evaluation of the product, our consultation with peer institutions, and our understanding of the current offerings. Additionally, the connectedness of Workday Student to Workday Platform allows for significant efficiencies and synergies.

As part of our commitment to students, we look forward to partnering with Workday to pave the way for the future of Student Information Systems.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Widespread Workday Student communications will begin in 2026, while those with project involvement are engaged in spring/summer 2024 and beyond.
