With the Benefits App, employees can conveniently find personalized information and take action all in one place.

Open Enrollment
Every year you have the opportunity to change your benefits during Open Enrollment. During Open Enrollment you can change your plans. It is a good time to review your dependents and update your beneficiaries. You can also enroll in a tax-saving Flexible Spending Account for the upcoming year should you choose to. Open Enrollment is your one-time-a-year opportunity, outside of new hires and life events, to make benefit changes.
Life Event
You have 30 days from the date of a qualifying life event to request applicable benefit changes. Certain life event reasons will require documentation which you will easily be able to upload right into Workday. Employees can update benefit elections when a qualifying event occurs, such as a change in marital status, the birth or adoption of a child, or a beneficiary change.
Dependents and Beneficiaries
It is important to know the difference between dependents and beneficiaries. A dependent is a person who is eligible to be covered by you under any GVSU-offered insurance plan. A beneficiary can be a person or a legal entity that is designated by you to receive a benefit, such as life insurance. Designating dependents under medical and/or dental insurance has no connection to designating beneficiaries.
Self-Service
Workers can easily utilize the self-service features of Workday when it comes to their benefits. In Workday, you can enroll in benefits, declare a benefit event type, view and change beneficiaries, and view your current benefits elections and associated costs.
