This will be a full-day training will be held in-person on
GVSU’s Downtown Campus. Complimentary parking, a boxed lunch,
beverages, and snacks will be provided.
Currently, masks are required in all GVSU campus buildings, regardless of vaccination status.
Understanding how to classify products under the Harmonized System (HS) is essential in keeping the global supply chain moving. HS classification is an important component in both, export declaration for export shipments and the customs entry for import shipments. The HS classification is central to determining both export eligibility and import duty rates and taxes. The correct HS classification is also key to determining if products qualify for preferential tariff treatment under the many free trade agreements.
- Understanding and applying the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI)
- Utilizing section notes, chapter notes, headings, and subheadings
- Classifying parts and kits
- Utilizing classification tools such as explanatory notes and binding rulings
- Managing HS classification data

IMPORTANT NOTE: Currently, per CDC Guidelines and Grand Valley State University On-Campus COVID-19 Policies, regardless of if an individual is vaccinated or not, this training will require masks to be worn at all times, by all attendees covering both the nose and mouth, except for when seated and socially distanced during meal times. GVSU requires that all guests fill out a self-assessment on the day they are planning to come to campus before they enter campus, please find the visitor self-assessment here. Social distancing and mask practices will be in effect and enforced throughout the training. If guidelines change and no longer allow us to meet in person during this scheduled time, all attendees will be notified and given the option to attend the online training given the following week or offered a refund.
