Brian Vernellis joined the University Communications team in August 2021 after spending more than 20 years working for newspapers in Michigan, Louisiana, and Indiana. His award-winning media career began as a sports writer for the Albion Recorder, the Jackson Citizen-Patriot, and the Shreveport Times, transitioning into digital content and strategies at The Times of Northwest Indiana. Prior to joining GVSU, he was digital director at The Holland Sentinel, responsible for website management, digital and social media strategies, and photo and video. He has a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in digital media from Michigan State University.
