Cost Breakdown for Grenoble Graduate School

This is the estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your semester or year. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds, scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount of financial aid that can be awarded to you by GVSU. This total program cost does not reflect the amount of aid you will qualify for, rather, it serves as the cap on what can be awarded.

GVSU Tuition (12-15 credits) (Undergraduate)


*Tuition based on 2018-2019 upper-level instate tuition rates (12-15 credits). Out-of-state students will pay the out-of-state tuition rate.

Paid to Grand Valley State University Student Accounts by the regular tuition payment deadline. Graduate student's will pay the graduate tuition rates. The total amount will depend on the number of courses completed abroad.

IS 380 Course Fee


Paid to GVSU. The IS 380 course fee is $28 per credit hour. Participants of this program will register for 12 credits of IS 380.

Additional Costs






Passport fee: $145. Campus France fee: $190. Visa fee is currently 99 Euro (approx. $116 US). Plus, $65 for travel to Chicago for your visa

Paid to Airline Provider and train/bus service.

Health insurance


Health insurance is required by GEM. Students will pay French Social Security of approx. 210 euro ($230 USD); repatriation insurance 75 euro ($85 USD); and Mutuelle 70 euro ($80 USD). The Basic ISIC card is $28 and will meet the PIC health insurance requirement.

Housing costs are based on 400 - 750 Euro per month or $470-$880. Students will also have to pay a deposit that is typically equal to two months rent. The cost estimate listed includes the deposit, administrative fee, and rent for 4 months. Many different options to choose from, actual cost will vary by location.

Out-of-state students who receive a GVSU tuition differential scholarship will be able to use that scholarship towards the cost of this program. Exception: international students will not have access to the tuition differential scholarship for use towards the cost of study abroad.

*Based on 2018-2019 in-state, upper-division tuition rates for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credit above 15 will be billed to your GVSU student account after you return and PIC completes the transfer of credit.

**The cost of any study abroad program depends to a large extent on the participant’s personal spending habits and lifestyle. Personal travel, entertainment, gifts, souvenirs, and other types of personal spending are costs not reflected in the above estimates.

The Padnos International Center will be providing (2) $1000 Partnership Grants for the 2018-2019 academic year. If more than 2 students apply for this program, decisions on awards will be made based on the strength of a student's study abroad application and financial need. Students may be eligible for more than $1000, but 2 applicants will receive a minimum of $1000 in grant support. Conditions apply. ** The housing costs are based on 500-1200 Euro per month which includes estimates for utilities and housing insurance, deposits, taxes, and the internet. Housing costs will vary based on location and amenities students prefer. The length of your stay will also impact the total cost. Students who access CROUS accommodations will see costs that are much lower. Students must apply for CROUS in order to receive housing benefits.
