Appointments

Student Senate goes through two appointment processes: one in the Fall and one in the Winter semester. Interested students should submit an application for either Student Senate General Assembly and their top committee choice (Advocacy, Events, Policy, or Public Relations) or Student Senate Judiciary Committee, the advisory board of Student Senate. From there students, will undergo an interview process with the Student Senate executive board, with accepted students being offered a place on either body of their interest.

Elections

During the second half of Winter semester, Student Senate holds election where both current senators and general students can run for a seat on the Senate body. Candidates are required to collect 50 petition signatures to appear on the voting ballot. Each candidate will choose which college seat they run for -- College of Nursing, College of Business, College of Computing, just to name a few -- and will run a campaign to acquire as many votes as possible. If you do not wish to represent a specific college on campus, you can run for an at-large seat in which you will represent the student body as a whole.

You may be wondering, who is voting in the Student Senate elections? That would be you! Anyone who is a registered student at Grand Valley State University is eligible to cast a vote for each College Representative seat. Once all petitions are confirmed and ballots are counted, the winners will be announced and offered a position on the General Body.
