STA 419 Consulting Session Observation
The goal of STA 419 is for students to develop the skills necessary to be a statistical consultant. Students who wish to observe a consulting session are required to first review the current scheduled appointments on the SCC Google calendar before requesting to attend. To access SCC calendar: Click to view the calendar on your Gmail, under "Other Calendars" click "Add a friend's Calendar" ([email protected])
To attend any consulting sessions, start by reviewing the available sessions (login with your GVSU email) then make a request, login with your GVSU email to complete the Consulting Session Observation Request FORM. A maximum of 2 students are allowed to observe any given session. Requests are processed on a "First Come - First Serve" basis and are indicated on the calendar by first initial, last initial, observation number. For example “SO#1” [in the same time block with a title like: Data Analysis OR Research Project OR Dissertation OR Program Evaluation OR Thesis] on the Google calendar indicates that student SO has been scheduled to their first observation.
Besides having your initials posted on the google calendar as a reminder, an email notification to invite you to attend will have a brief description of what the client is requesting assistance with. You will need to set up your calendar in order to receive advance notifications regarding the meeting(s) for which you have been invited.
Booking the Statistical Consulting Center office (located in MAK A-1-184)
If you wish to utilize MAK A-1-184 (Statistical Consulting Center office) for meeting with your client(s) via Zoom, the instructions for booking the Statistical Consulting Center office (located in MAK A-1-184) are as follows:
- Go to to the Statistical Consulting Center's calendar Google Calendar to see the time slots during which the Consulting Center is booked/not booked for a meeting. If you do not see the Statistical Consulting Center's calendar, reach out via email (scc@[email protected]).
- Left click any of the blank rectangles under the day of the week you wish to book the SCC office. Give your event a relevant/useful title, and adjust the time slot to the time you wish to have the SCC office booked for. Then, add the following guests: [email protected], your groupmate(s), and your client(s) (you will need their email address(es)).
- In the "description" text box, add any relevant info for your meeting plus a ZOOM link.
- Add any relevant attachments.
- Click "save."
- If booking the SCC office on Tuesday or Thursday, you will need someone from the Department of Statistics' main office (MAK A-1-178) to unlock the door and let you in. I would recommend reaching out to [email protected] in advance. The Department of Statistics' main office is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
