STA 419 is classified as an "Experiential Learning Course". In your opinion did STA 419 fit the classification? Briefly explain?
" It extended beyond theoretical instruction by involving direct interaction with a client, collaboration with peers, and exposure to real data and messy problem-solving scenarios. Through these experiences, I gained a better understanding of statistical principles as they apply outside of textbook examples. I learned more about my own strengths—such as attention to detail and the ability to frame questions effectively—and identified areas for improvement, like time management and clarifying assumptions early on. Working with a partner and engaging with a non-statistician client broadened my perspective, showing me how diverse backgrounds and skill sets can contribute to a project’s success. Furthermore, the course nurtured professional practices, from meeting deadlines and documenting progress to delivering a professional-quality report. The sense of satisfaction that came with meeting a real community need—by helping a client gain insight into their data—is hard to replicate in a traditional classroom setting. All of these experiences combined to enhance my self-confidence and leadership skills, confirming that this was indeed experiential learning at its finest." Kelsey T.
