Description
This course is designed to help build fundamental knowledge of technical and climbing systems. Whether you are semi new to climbing, or have been sending routes for years, you are sure to pick up on some valuable knowledge to help you in the world of vertical pursuits! The course introduces technical climbing systems implemented from the top of a climb. Equipment attributes, rappelling, anchoring, and advanced belay techniques are all included.
This course will be fast paced, and will require you to practice the skills OUTSIDE of our regular meeting times.
This workshop will be broken up into five (5) distinct sections, or "Modules" to help you progress and incorporate new knowledge throughout the course. These modules are meant to be educational, interactive, and ultimately fun for you. Each week you will be given access to a new online portion of that week's module and will be responsible for watching, reading, practicing, and completing the online portions of that module by 4:00pm that Wednesday.
Participants are expected to know how to tie-in and belay with a tubular style belay device before the start of class. Bringing your own personal climbing equipment is strongly encouraged so you can practice with what you would typically have on an outdoor climb. We have equipment for participants to use as-needed for the in-person meetings.
Registration to this event is limited to GVSU students, faculty/ staff, & members of the West Michigan chapter of the American Alpine Club. GVSU affiliated participants may access the registration form using their GVSU username & password. AAC members will be provided login information from their Chairperson.
