Political Science Department Named Outstanding GVSU Department

During the Student Life Awards, the Political Science Department was honored with the 2022 Outstanding GVSU Department Award. The award recognizes a department that has contributed to the growth and development of student life by collaborating with students and student organizations to help maintain and enhance a vibrant GVSU community.
The Political Science Department was nominated by Maddie Samuels. Samuel explained her nomination: “I have had wonderful professors from multiple departments during my time at GVSU, but I must say that this [PLS] department has been impressive to me in so many ways. I cannot think of a more deserving winner for the Outstanding Department Award.”
“I have always felt supported by the department since I started my freshman year,” continued Samuels, “and I cannot thank my professors enough for helping me grow. I can honestly say I have become more confident in myself because of the professors I have had.”
Professor Darren Walhof, current chair of the Political Science Department, said, “We are proud of the many Political Science and International Relations students who participate in Student Senate, student organizations, and other leadership roles on and off campus, and we try to support them as much as we can.” Given this priority in trying to support student leadership efforts, the Political Science Department is honored and grateful to the GVSU Office of Student Life for the award!
