Bryan Wins PLS Excellence-in-a-Discipline Award

The Political Science Department congratulates Miranda Bryan, this year’s winner of the Excellence-in-a-Discipline Award for Political Science.

Miranda is finishing a double major in Political Science and Religious Studies, along with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. While at GVSU, Miranda has not only excelled in her classes but also contributed to the campus and community in many ways. She is in her second year as a Fellow of the Cook Leadership Academy, a project of GVSU’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies. Miranda also served as president of the GVSU Model U.N. team for three years and as a chairperson for high school Model U.N. conferences around the state of Michigan.

Last year Miranda interned with the Kent School Services Network at Godwin Heights Middle School. As part of the internship, she ran a chapter of Girls for Change with seventh and eighth grade girls in an effort to increase social justice education and develop leadership skills among the girls. She also compiled and analyzed school data on the relationships among sexism, racism, and graduation and attendance rates.

Congratulations, Miranda!
