Challenge Scholars

The William F. Pickard Scholars Program at Grand Valley State University is a prestigious scholarship initiative designed to empower first-generation college students, with a particular emphasis on those pursuing degrees in business. Named in honor of renowned philanthropist and entrepreneur Dr. William F. Pickard, whose longstanding generosity and commitment to educational equity have greatly benefited GVSU, the program seeks to uplift historically underrepresented students by providing both financial support and meaningful engagement opportunities.

Pickard Scholars

Named in honor of Wade H. McCree, former Solicitor General of the United States and Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Michigan, this scholarship embodies a shared commitment among Michigan’s public universities to expand access to higher education for talented students across West Michigan.

The Wade H. McCree Incentive Scholarship recognizes outstanding high school students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a strong commitment to their communities. Awards are based on a holistic review of each applicant’s academic record, personal achievements, and counselor recommendations.
