Fall Oboe Workshop: Friday, October 23, 2026
Join us for a hands-on introduction to oboe reed making! This workshop is open to oboists of all ages and experience levels, with a special invitation to middle and high school students who want to develop strong reed-making skills early in their musical journey. Participants will learn the fundamentals of creating a functional, playable reed, including basic scrape design and knife-scraping techniques. No prior reed-making experience is required. Dr. Marlen Vavrikova, Professor of Oboe at Grand Valley State University, will provide step-by-step instruction and individualized guidance throughout the day.
Registration is $20 and includes all materials, use of reed-making tools during the workshop, personalized instruction, and a light snack. You will leave with one or two reeds and the confidence to continue developing your reed-making skills. To keep the workshop safe, hands-on, and personal, participation is limited. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and will close once all spaces are filled.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, October 15, 2026
