Join us for a fun day of music-making at GVSU Oboe Day 2027! Spend the day playing in the GVSU Oboe Day Ensemble, participating in master classes and sessions on healthy and efficient practice habits, meeting fellow oboists, and exploring instruments, reeds, music, and accessories from our exhibitors.

New this year: Up to five middle and high school participants will be selected to perform a solo with a professional collaborative pianist during the final recital.

Registration is $20 and includes lunch, all activities, eligibility to apply for the GVSU Oboe Day Young Artist Showcase, and entry into our door prize drawings and giveaways.

GVSU is a cashless campus; we can only accept digital payments and forms.

Registration Deadline: Friday, April 2, 2027

Participants will have the opportunity to:

Perform in the GVSU Oboe Day Ensemble
Participate in master classes
Attend sessions on healthy and efficient practice habits
Meet GVSU oboe students and faculty
Browse instruments, reeds, music, and accessories from exhibitors
Perform in the final concert (ensemble participants)
Apply to perform a solo with a collaborative pianist (middle and high school students)

9:45 a.m. Instrument and Oboe Music Exhibits (open until 3:30 p.m.)
10:00 a.m. Instrument Maintenance Class
11:00 a.m. Tone & Technique Clinic with Dr. Marlen Vavrikova
12:00 p.m. Lunch
1:00–2:45 p.m. Oboe Day Ensemble Rehearsal
1:00–2:45 p.m. Collaborative Pianist Rehearsals (scheduled individually)
2:45 p.m. Group Photo
3:00 p.m. Body Awareness & Guided Breathing Exercises (with a special guest)
3:30 p.m. Break & Refresh / Concert Preparation
4:00 p.m. GVSU Oboe Day Young Artist Showcase & Closing Recital

Oboe Day Ensemble

All participants are invited to perform in the GVSU Oboe Day Ensemble during the closing recital.

Please indicate your preferred part assignment:

Would you be willing to perform on English horn if needed? (Participants selecting "Yes" must bring their own English horn.)

Would you be willing to play a different part than your preference if needed to help balance the ensemble? *

Ensemble music and part assignments will be emailed to participants by April 5, 2027. We will make every effort to honor part preferences while maintaining a balanced ensemble.

Young Artist Showcase

Application Requirements

Open to middle and high school students
One unedited video (2–6 minutes), recorded within the last eight months
Piano accompaniment is optional
Application deadline: April 2
Notification date: April 5 (Performers will be selected based on the submitted recording and overall musical preparation.)

Selected participants will be notified by email and must submit a PDF of the piano accompaniment for their solo on the day they receive their notification. Submission of the piano score by this deadline is required to confirm participation in the Young Artist Showcase. Each selected performer will receive one 20-minute rehearsal with the GVSU collaborative pianist on the day of the recital at no additional cost.
