Social Justice in HPE

Published February 25, 2025

In January, Dr. Johnson presented a session on social justice in the HPE major at the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education (NAKHE) conference. Some highlights include sharing how the HPE faculty include social justice topics across many courses in the program. Topics included: 8 strands of social justice, teaching global games, social and emotional learning (SEL), Trauma informed teaching, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, LGBTQAI, culturally responsive teaching, ableism and more.

Colleagues from around the world were interested and engaged in conversations about social justice and how to use these topics with future teachers. They were impressed with our commitment to addressing this topic throughout our entire major.
