Kala is currently working at Western Michigan University as an academic advisor in the Global and International Studies program. She's used her French language a bit since graduation - working briefly at a bilingual customer service call center and assisted a professor on a linguistics research trip to French-speaking Ontario. She also used her French a bit during her graduate studies in Comparative Religion at WMU to look at primary or original texts that were written in French. Knowledge of a foreign language is also required for her master's degree. Kala spent a year in Ethiopia doing agricultural and environmental extension work with the Peace Corps where she learned a little bit of Ethiopian Amharic and Tigrinya languages. Kala says, "I have always really appreciated my French language background and the quality classes I took at GVSU. I am still super proud of my language skills!"
