Alternative Breaks

Past members know that Alternative Breaks (AB) is a service organization that typically sends out multiple week long service trips on both environmental and social topics over winter and spring break. This year because of COVID-19 they cannot send out trips so our focus this year will be about working with local organizations. One of the main goals of AB is to bring what they learned their trips back to our own community. This year they will be focusing on their community and how they can still make an impact even during a global pandemic. AB is not religiously affiliated and welcomes people of all faiths and beliefs. By growing from member to community leader to an executive board member, students cultivate strong leadership skills.

Habitat for Humanity

The Grand Valley State University Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is a registered student organization existing under the guidelines set forth by the university. Their organization falls under the umbrella of Service and Advocacy and should work closely with GVSU and "Habitat for Humanity" to promote, advocate, and serve in and outside of the university community. Through membership in GVSU's chapter of Habitat for Humanity, their members will actively participate in the physical building of homes through our affiliate Habitat for Humanity of Kent County. Therefore, their campus chapter will assist in fundraising as well as advocacy for their affiliate, so that they may continue in their mission of providing affordable and adequate housing for those in need.

Parks, Adventure, Recreation Club

PARC is a club built to inspire a love of adventure and encourage participation in our community. Their goal is to get members out of the classroom and encourage them to explore their surroundings through recreation activities such as hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, camping, hammocking, etc. They want their members to have fun, meet new people, and explore. They know that the best way to do this is not through meetings, but through fun, low/no cost activities held throughout the year!

Bringing Together the World
