Transfer Resources
Students entering or currently enrolled in the Kirkhof College of Nursing may transfer qualifying coursework from other accredited institutions, subject to evaluation by GVSU and KCON. Accurate transfer planning can support timely progression in the nursing curriculum by identifying which courses meet foundational, general education, or program-specific requirements.
The information below outlines the process for reviewing course equivalencies, submitting transcripts, receiving an official transfer evaluation, and working with an advisor to integrate eligible credits into an individualized academic plan.
Transfer Process
Submit Official Transcripts
GVSU must receive official transcripts before any transfer credit can be added to your record.
- New students: You submit transcripts from all previous colleges during the GVSU application process. GVSU reviews them and creates your transfer credit evaluation
- Current students: If you take a class at another school, request that your official transcript be sent to GVSU after the course is finished. Your record will then be updated.
Your evaluation will show which credits transfer, what requirements they meet, and what you still need to complete.
Meet With a KCON Advisor
After your credits are evaluated, meet with a KCON academic advisor to see how your courses fit into your program. Advisors help you:
- Understand how transfer credits apply
- Avoid repeating similar coursework
- Plan future classes and stay on track for nursing progression

Review the official GVSU transfer equivalencies to understand how courses from another institution are expected to transfer. This helps you confirm whether a class will meet general education, prerequisite, or major requirements.

Transfer plans outline recommended course selections from specific Michigan community colleges. These plans can help students make efficient choices when taking courses outside of GVSU.
Guest Student Applications
A guest student is someone who is enrolled at one college or university but takes a course at another institution for a single term, such as during summer or when a needed class is not offered at their home school.
While taking a course as a guest, students remain degree-seeking at their home institution and are responsible for confirming that the course will transfer back into their program.
After completing the course, an official transcript must be sent to the home institution to add the credit to the student's record.
Concurrent Enrollment
Concurrent enrollment allows a student to take classes at GVSU and another approved institution during the same semester, but only courses taken at select partner schools can be included. Students must complete the required concurrent enrollment form before registering for any outside coursework and must remain enrolled in at least one GVSU course that applies to their degree.
When approved, concurrent enrollment allows students to use their GVSU financial aid to help cover the cost of classes taken at both institutions. After the term ends, students must request an official transcript from the partner school to have the credits added to their GVSU record.
