Are You Oversharing?
Oversharing: Giving out an excessive amount of personal information, especially in a way which might be considered inappropriate or dangerous to you and those around you.
Consider the questions below:
- Do you tag your location in posts?
- Do you publish content about upcoming or ongoing vacations?
- Do you share posts about your emotional state?
- Do you post about getting drunk or high?
If you said yes to one or more of these questions, you're oversharing.
Tips & Tricks:
- Go through your friends list.
- If there's anyone you don't know or don't want to see your posts, delete them,
- Take 60 seconds before hitting “share.” Think about how an employer or even a future version of yourself would react to this post.
- Will you find it embarrassing in a few years?
- Could it impact you being hired for your dream job?
If you have any doubts, don't post it.
Don't post anything that could be used against you. Posting information about where you are or even how you're feeling could make you a target for scams and theft. Take some time to review your past content and delete anything you find embarrassing or may impact your reputation.
