Interprofessional Education (IPE) Student Certificate

The IPE Student Certificate at Grand Valley State is a year-long program designed to build skills in interprofessional communication and collaborative practice through didactic, simulation-based, and independent-research-based co-learning. Students from participating MIPERC member organizations enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or professional programs in health disciplines are encouraged to participate.

Health care agencies and institutions require staff to work together for the delivery of safe, patient-centered care. Certificate participation provides students opportunities to gain practical, often clinical, experience in interprofessional settings and demonstrates a commitment to interprofessional care as students prepare for employment in health fields. Adding the IPE Student certificate to students’ professional portfolio positions them as strong communicators and supporters of teamwork and collaboration, with experience in practice settings that make them attractive to potential employers.

The IPE Student Certificate at GVSU incorporates each of the four Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competency domains for interprofessional collaborative practice into our curricula and certificate requirements. The four competencies below ensure robust skill development and broad applicability of our program across health disciplines.

  • Values/Ethics
  • Roles/Responsibilities
  • Interprofessional Communication
  • Teamwork/Team-Based Care
