Description

Many Christians who engage in interfaith work and whose churches play an integral role in welcoming and assisting refugees (many of whom are Muslim) believe they are putting their Christian faith into action. But where does evangelism fit in, if at all? Is the Great Commandment (love God & your neighbor) and the Great Commission (make disciples of all nations) competing or contradictory? How do we account for current and historical power imbalances and harm committed in the name of religion, namely religious intolerance and oppression? How does one’s racial, ethnic, and/or cultural identity shape the conversation?

Join us for a special virtual conversation among Christians for Christians facilitated by the Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign: Standing with American Muslims, Advancing American Ideals that features leaders connected to the Christian Reformed Church of North America and the Reformed Church of America, including: Lisa Hoogeboom, Adjunct Professor of Biblical Studies at Calvin Theological Seminary; Rev. Laura Osborne, Coordinator for Interreligious Relations with the Reformed Church of America; Rev. Greg Sinclar, Project Manager and Diaspora Ministry Leader with Resonate Global Mission of the Christian Reformed Church of North America; Rev. Kyle Kooyers, Associate Director at the Kaufman Interfaith Institute; and Cory Willson, Jake and Betsy Tuls Professor of Missiology, World Christianity, and Public Theology and Director of The Institute for Mission, Church, & Culture at Calvin Theological Seminary.

The Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign: Standing with American Muslims, Advancing American Ideals is a national multifaith coalition of religious denominations and faith-based organizations who are committed to ending anti-Muslim hatred, discrimination, and violence in the United States of America. While our work is to connect, equip, and mobilize people of all faiths and cultural backgrounds, we are committed to creating faith specific resources that will support and challenge our partners, such as this intra-faith event particularly designed for Christians. If there is significant interest in this topic, we will coordinate another event featuring another set of leaders.

This event has been tagged as christianity, community, and interfaith.
