Nineteen Day Fast (First Night)
Date and Time
Monday, March 2, 2026
Description
What is the Nineteen Day Fast?
- Many adherents of the Bahá’í faith observe this annual 19-day fast every March in spiritual preparation for the upcoming New Year, Naw-Ruz or Nowruz.
- Those following the fast will abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset each day.
- As with a number of other seasons of fasting across other traditions, the practice of self-restraint is seen as a means of getting closer to God.
- A common practice during this 19-day period is the reading or reciting specific daily prayers.
