Nineteen Day Fast (First Night)

Date and Time

Friday, February 28, 2025

Description

What is the Nineteen Day Fast?

  • Many adherents of the Bahá’í faith observe this annual 19-day fast every March in spiritual preparation for the upcoming New Year, Naw-Ruz or Nowruz.
  • Those following the fast will abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset each day.
  • As with a number of other seasons of fasting across other traditions, the practice of self-restraint is seen as a means of getting closer to God.
  • A common practice during this 19-day period is the reading or reciting specific daily prayers.
