Description

Winter is often a time of the year that calls us to reflection and change.  This winter our theme will be pilgrimage.  The path of the pilgrim begins with what we leave behind--not so much a journey to a holy place, but a holy practice of leaving the comforts of the familiar for a radical vulnerability, letting the very breath within us direct us on the unknown, stripped-down path of trust.  For this book study, we will be reading and discussing the book, “Without Oars”.  Following are the details.

WHO:  This book study is for anyone who is interested in joining this community discussion.  Our facilitators for this group are Doug Kindschi & Karen Meyers.

WHAT:  For this facilitated book study, we will be reading Without Oars: Casting Off into a Life of Pilgrimage by Wesley Granberg-Michaelson.  In “Without Oars”, Wesley Granberg-Michaelson blends history, storytelling, biblical insights, personal reflections, and spiritual formation in an inviting call to discover pilgrimage as a way of life. This book offers a unique perspective on the faith journey as an embodied practice of heading into the unknown and unknowable--with all the excitement, risk, and rewards that come with letting go.

WHEN:  Every other Wednesday afternoon this Winter / Spring from 2:00 - 3:30 pm starting on Wednesday, January 22, 2024

WHERE:  We will be meeting by  Zoom - the link will be sent out closer to the first date. Later in the spring, we may  include an “in person” session.

WHY:  In this divisive election year, it is important for us to build a community where we can discuss current issues and solutions for our future as a country.  This book study, like other affinity groups offered by the Kaufman Institute, is designed to build relationships that span our differences while fostering human connection, interfaith understanding, and collective transformation.

HOW:  Register now to receive the Zoom link and schedule for this study.  Even if you have participated in a previous Kaufman book study, we need you to register HERE.

PREPARE:  If you are choosing to join our group, please obtain the book (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, other) and read the prologue and introduction by our first session on January 22, 2024.
