An ongoing partnership between Grand Valley's Sylvia and Richard Kaufman Interfaith Institute and the Fetzer Institute of Kalamazoo has sparked a multi-year project to examine local interfaith models.

Douglas Kindschi, founding director of the Kaufman Interfaith Institute, said the three-year project is funded by a grant from the Fetzer Institute. He adding the project will bring a better understanding of how the interfaith model that has been developed and implemented successfully in Grand Rapids by the Kaufman Institute and its partners might be transferrable to other communities, including Kalamazoo.

“We’re excited to partner with the Fetzer Institute, as our organizations are both striving to build bridges of understanding across religious, civic, social, and community divides,” he said. “We hope that this collaboration will reveal new learnings and ideas related to building loving and inclusive communities that are based on understanding and open-mindedness, rather than division and fear.”
