Painting Assistant - Grade 3

Essential Functions

  • Application of paint and all related finishes.
  • Preparation of surfaces to be refinished.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 70 feet, in confined areas, and at times during inclement weather. Be able to lift 70 pounds.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including bending, stooping and reaching.
  • Willingness to work with student staff and other maintenance personnel in their duties as assigned.
  • Willingness to work under supervision of painting specialist.
  • Operate man lift equipment and scaffolding.
  • Follow work assignments, instruction, labeled information and safety standards independently.
  • An understanding of paints and related finishes.
  • Provide quality customer service to faculty, staff, students and campus visitors.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest and experience in all building maintenance areas as needed to perform the primary functions listed above.
  • Satisfactory past work performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness to work overtime and accept off-shift assignments.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent attendance record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in painting and finishing technique.
  • One year of training or field experience.
  • An understanding of accepted safety practices in the handling and storage of materials, paints, finishes and all related hazardous materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to make repairs of all painted or finished walls or surfaces.

Physical Demands

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Must have the physical stamina to work long hours and/or more than 5 days per week.
