Job Summary

Operates and monitors computer systems.

Essential Functions

  • Run production shift schedule on mainframe and network.
  • Operate peripheral equipment; perform preventative maintenance.
  • Operate, monitor and control mainframe and network processing.
  • Verify thoroughness and accuracy of jobs during production runs, prior to, during and after execution.
  • Solve problems or notify contact personnel.
  • Lift boxes, push or pull carts.
  • Supervise student employees.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Provides guidance and assistance to students, temporary employees or system users.
  • Verify JCL parameters.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  • Initialize the system, idle the system, initiate system recoveries, and similar procedures.
  • Recognize system and peripheral equipment malfunctions and execute proper corrective procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Data Processing or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of three years related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully operate office equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully provide quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own work and coordinate work activities of others.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex information obtained from technical and procedural manuals.
  • Willingness to work any shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software.

Supervision Received

Receives minimal supervision from a designated supervisor. Much of the work is self-initiated. Person is expected to function with considerable independence and apply appropriate policies and procedures within the assigned area of responsibility.

Supervision Exercised

Hire, train, schedule and coordinate the work of student employees and may act as lead worker to PSS staff members within the department/unit/division.
