Note: Participation in Network Communities should not interfere with regular work responsibilities.
The Pet Network is a fun and casual space for pet parents to connect and share tips and resources about pet ownership in our community. See a list of topics, dates, and register at www.gvsu.edu/sprout.
How do I start my own Network Community?
If you are interested in facilitating a Network Community, work life would love to hear from you. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: Network Community.
Are there other opportunities to connect with others?
GVSU offers multiple opportunities throughout campus to engage with colleagues across campus.
Communities of Practice
A Community of Practice (COP) is a group of individuals from all GVSU employee groups who share and implement the best practices in a particular topic area. There are student organizations across campus to support engagement in various mindfulness practices. In addition, the Community Service and Learning Center organizes the annual Make a Difference Day, a national day of service that encourages students to volunteer in their community.
Current Communities of Practice include:
Lean In Circle
Grand Valley Lean In Circle meets monthly and is open to all faculty, staff and community members. Based on the book by Sheryl Sandberg, Lean In Circles are small groups who meet regularly to learn and grow together and discuss topics related to career success. Attendees show up authentically and promote dialogue about issues and opportunities related to helping all women reach their full potential. Meetings are held once a month on Fridays at either the Pew or Allendale campuses, beginning at 1 p.m. and run for 90 minutes.
The mission of Positive Organizations (PO), a GVSU Community of Practice, is to offer unique and enriching opportunities that inspire and support employees in their quest to thrive at Grand Valley State University. The group is open to all GVSU employees and offers opportunities to explore, share and develop ideas and best practices that produce a work environment where individuals thrive and the organization exceeds expectations.
