Mindfulness and Kindness at GVSU

Kindness Counts

Research reflects that even the smallest gestures of kindness make a big impact. Givers and receivers of kindness experience relief of pain, stress, anxiety, and depression, in addition to lower blood pressure, improved overall health, a slowed aging process, and increased levels of happiness. So why not make someone’s day by sending a virtual Laker Kindness Card today! Learn more about the kindness cards.

Here are a few ways to use these easy-to-use fillable PDFs:

  • Send via email – Select a card, fill in the blank, save the file, attach the file to an email, and send to recipient.

Wellness doesn't come overnight. It's a process of implementing new habits into your life that make you feel grounded and present, a process that's not always easy for people. Thankfully, you don't have to suddenly know what to do on your own when life gets difficult and mindfulness doesn't come easily. GVSU has a variety of resources and ideas to help you navigate self-care, conscious communication, grief and loss, and self-compassion featured in the #Wellness Toolkit Decks. Each deck of cards features ideas on how to improve in different areas of your daily life to feel more mindful and resilient. For more information and resources visit the #Wellness Toolkits webpage.

Trainings Offered

Emotional Strength logo

Emotional Strength Training

We understand the importance of physical conditioning; what about emotional conditioning? How strong and resilient are we during stressful and trying times? How do we handle the constant pressure to perform in rapidly changing environments?

This training focuses on strengthening emotional well-being, which is accomplished by caring for ourselves both responsively and proactively. Much like a physical regimen, this experience intends to build emotional muscle through self-compassion and increased emotional agility. Be prepared to work through personal or work related situations, and leave with a tangible process to approach situations in the future.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

Need to have a difficult conversation, but don’t know where to start? This training will help participants communicate effectively and will provide specific tools to address barriers of effective communication.

Participants will learn how to use mindfulness to manage emotions that can interfere during interpersonal communication, and how to validate and listen more effectively. They will develop tools to help when communicating with people from diverse backgrounds and different disciplines.

During the training, all participants will be able to use real life examples to role play and practice using the skills they learned. They will work through a specific script that will help them hone in on their message.
