RHA Executive Director Positions

The Residence Housing Association at Grand Valley State University seeks to build relationships and enhance the residential student experience through leadership, service, and recognition.

RHA, a registered student organization situated within and advised by the department of Housing & Residence Life, is led by a Executive Board team of six Executive Directors. Executive Directors are selected based on an application and interview process with current RHA Executive Board members, RHA Advisors, and members of the Housing & Residence Life Leadership team.

Applications for Fall 2022-Winter 2023 positions are open!

Eligibility requirements:

  • Candidates must be registered as a GVSU student for Fall 2022
  • Candidates must reside in on campus housing
  • Candidates must be available to attend RHA General Assembly meetings every other Friday at 1:00pm

 

Prior experience in RHA is not required to be eligible to serve on the RHA Executive Board.

NOTE: Students hired to the Resident Assistant position are ineligible to serve on the RHA Executive Board.

RHA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

ALL RHA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the position-specific responsibilities listed below, all members of the RHA Executive Board will:

  • Attend biweekly RHA General Assembly meetings Fridays at 1:00 p.m. 
  • Attend weekly or biweekly RHA Executive Board meetings (to be scheduled based on commitments of selected Executive Board members)
  • Meet weekly or biweekly with advisors
  • Maintain regular e-mail communication and participate in occasional Zoom planning meetings during the summer
  • Submit at least one Of The Month (OTM) award nomination per semester
  • Facilitate and participate in associated RHA committees
RHA DIRECTOR
  • Serve as primary contact of and official spokesperson for RHA
  • Monitor and respond to RHA email account
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and oversight of all RHA/NRHH activities and responsibilities
  • Manage organization priorities, create agendas, and facilitate meetings
  • Lead advocacy and policy consultation efforts of RHA
  • Meet regularly with Director of Housing & Residence Life
  • Meet regularly with members of the RHA Executive Board

This position is an ideal opportunity for students studying Business Administration, Public and Nonprofit Administration, Hospitality & Tourism Management. The position time commitment is approximately 4-7 hours per week outside of major annual events/programs. Successful fulfillment of position responsibilities is recognized with a $250 leadership stipend per semester.

RHA ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
  • Manage RHA attendance policy and records
  • Take, post, and distribute meeting minutes
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and oversight of RHA programming
  • Serve as primary RHA contact and coordinator for Haunted Arboretum
  • Coordinate St. Patrick’s Day programming

This position is an ideal opportunity for students studying Business Administration, Public and Nonprofit Administration, Hospitality & Tourism Management. The position time commitment is approximately 4-7 hours per week outside of major annual events/programs. Successful fulfillment of position responsibilities is recognized with a $250 leadership stipend per semester. 

Note: This position is listed as Vice President/Risk Manager in Laker Link in accordance with Registered Student Organization requirements.

RHA COLLABORATION & FINANCE DIRECTOR
  • Maintain RHA budget and finance records
  • Oversee OCM partnership and associated fundraising efforts
  • Manage Student Senate funding requests
  • Serve as RHA liaison with Student Senate, Student Life/CAB, and RA staff
  • Serve as primary RHA contact and coordinator for Family Weekend and Sibs n Kids Weekend

This position is an ideal opportunity for students studying Advertising & Public Relations, Communications, Accounting, Finance. The position time commitment is approximately 4-7 hours per week outside of major annual events/programs. Successful fulfillment of position responsibilities is recognized with a $250 leadership stipend per semester.

Note: This position is listed as Financial Officer in Laker Link in accordance with Registered Student Organization requirements.

RHA RECORDS & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
  • Manage member recruitment efforts
  • Coordinate management and content of RHA social media accounts
  • Maintain RHA website
  • Coordinate RHA involvement in Campus Life Night
  • Oversee recruitment and management of event volunteers
  • Serve as primary RHA contact and coordinator for Fall and Winter semester Exam Cram

This position is an ideal opportunity for students studying Advertising & Public Relations, Communications, Public and Nonprofit Administration. The position time commitment is approximately 4-7 hours per week outside of major annual events/programs. Successful fulfillment of position responsibilities is recognized with a $250 leadership stipend per semester.

Note: This position is listed as Membership Officer in Laker Link in accordance with Registered Student Organization requirements.

RHA LEADERSHIP & SERVICE DIRECTOR
  • Coordinate GVSU RHA representation at regional, national conferences
  • Manage leadership and service aspects of RHA
  • Support recognition aspects of RHA
  • Serve as RHA representative on University Food Committee
  • Serve as primary coordinator of Labor Day Weekend programming
  • Serve as primary RHA contact and coordinator for Project Donation

This position is an ideal opportunity for students studying Political Science, Public and Nonprofit Administration. The position time commitment is approximately 4-7 hours per week outside of major annual events/programs. Successful fulfillment of position responsibilities is recognized with a $250 leadership stipend per semester. 

Note: The RHA Leadership & Service Director also serves as Grand Valley's RHA National Communications Coordinator (NCC) for GLACURH and NACURH.

RHA LEADERSHIP & RECOGNITION DIRECTOR
  • Coordinate GVSU NRHH representation regional, national conferences
  • Manage communications, web content, and recruitment of NRHH members
  • Manage recognition aspects of RHA
  • Support leadership & service aspects of RHA
  • Serve as primary coordinator of Opening Programming and End of Year Celebration

This position is an ideal opportunity for students studying Political Science, Public and Nonprofit Administration. The position time commitment is approximately 4-7 hours per week outside of major annual events/programs. Successful fulfillment of position responsibilities is recognized with a $250 leadership stipend per semester.

The RHA Leadership & Recognition Director also serves as Grand Valley's National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) National Communications Coordinator (NCC) for GLACURH and NACURH.

RHA EXECUTIVE POSITIONS FAQ

What are the benefits of serving on the RHA Executive Board?

In addition to relevant professional experience and campus connections, RHA Executive Board members earn a $250 leadership stipend per semester for successful fulfillment of their role.

What if I want to be a part of RHA but I don't want a leadership position?

We would love to have you at our general assembly meetings, which will be held on Fridays at 1:00 p.m. 

Can I be considered for multiple positions?

Yes! We have a general Executive Board application, and you will be asked to rank the position you would like to be considered for.

If I don't get an Executive Board position can I still be a member of RHA?

Absolutely! We would encourage you to attend our GA meetings.

What is the time commitment?

RHA Executive Directors attend weekly or bi-weekly Executive Board, General Assembly, and advisor 1:1 meetings. In addition to regular meetings, Executive Directors have administrative responsibilities related to their particular position. The average weekly time commitment is estimated at 4-6 hours weekly outside of major semester programs (i.e. Haunted Arboretum).
