Community Officers at GVSU
GVSU Police Department established a community policing division in 1999 to concentrate on building community partnerships, promoting awareness, and to focus on problem solving in order to encourage a safe environment for those who learn, live and work at Grand Valley State University. Through collaborative efforts and unprecedented partnerships within the community, we have increased community trust, communication, and confidence in police services as a result.
The community police officers work closely with the Office of Housing and Residence Life to maintain and develop innovative programs that respond to the emerging needs of our student body. Our police department encourages everyone within this environment to be alert, aware, and responsible for themselves, others and the community by taking advantage of the educational opportunities regarding safety. Our community police officers are trained to work with college students, faculty and staff. Our police department has a great deal of expertise in helping manage difficult situations, referring individuals to the appropriate resources, and working together to solve problems.
Do not hesitate in contacting our agency or one of the community police officers as a resource. If you are struggling or are concerned about someone's behaviors, ask for help. You don't have to wait for unfortunate events to occur. Simply contact the police.
