New Music Ensemble included on NPR's list of 100 Best Songs of 2017

Among the likes of Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson, Little Big Town, Selena Gomez and Kendrick Lamar, Grand Valley's award-winning New Music Ensemble has been included on NPR's list of the Best 100 Songs of 2017. The ensemble was recognized for its song "Glass Surface" from the album "Return," which debuted in October. "Return," which is comprised of 15 pieces composed by three alumni, is the New Music Ensemble's fourth commercial CD. The album's three composers include Adam Cuthbért, '10, Matthew Fiinch, '15, and Daniel Rhodé, '12. "

Video: Grounds Dept. receives four-star accreditation

The Grounds Department in Facilities Services in Allendale and Pew Campus Operations recently received Four-Star recognition, the highest level possible, from the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) Landscape Management and Operations Accreditation program. The rating recognizes excellence in several categories, including management practices, sustainability initiatives, and environmental awareness and stewardship.

Grand Valley's Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies was one of three West Michigan institutions -- along with Aquinas College and Mercy Health -- to receive a major gift from the family of Ralph W. Hauenstein, Hauenstein Center namesake, on December 11.

Policy reminders for closings, cancellations

Grand Valley will close or cancel all or part of its operations in cases of emergency, utility disruptions or for weather-related reasons. Cancellation means classes will not be held and all staff members are to report to work at their regular time. Closure or closed means classes and campus events will not be held and only essential staff are to report to work.

First class of Design Thinking Academy students complete program

Nineteen students from 15 different majors recently became the first group of fellows to complete the inaugural semester of Grand Valley's new Design Thinking Academy - a program established to help students become innovative thinkers and problem solvers who are able to make lasting impacts in the world. During a ceremony on December 8, the academy fellows were awarded Design Thinking Academy certificates of completion.
