Grand Valley hosts Boys State

More than 250 high school seniors from around Michigan attended Boys State, a non-partisan, non-political mock government exercise at Grand Valley during the last week of June.

New position at GVSU to study diversity, equity issues in nonprofit sector

Leaders in the field of philanthropy from across the country have noticed a shortcoming in how the nonprofit sector applies principles of diversity, equity and inclusion throughout its critically important and economically substantial work. With this need in mind, the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University is adding former Aquinas College president Juan Olivarez to its ranks to help study, understand and share knowledge about how to improve inclusive practices in the nonprofit sector.

Two alumni credit Laker Connections for their academic success

Juan Mascorro-Guerrero and Gloire Rubambiza found their way to Grand Valley from Mexico and Uganda, respectively. They were both immigrants, arriving in Michigan with their families, learning to adjust to school then thriving with excellent grades at their high schools. Both Mascorro-Guerrero and Rubambiza will begin graduate degree programs in the fall, and both earned graduate assistantships to pay for their tuition and living expenses.
