GVSU receives $600,000 grant to fund scholarships for nursing

Grand Valley State University's Kirkhof College of Nursing received a $600,000 grant to fund scholarships for students who are pursuing nursing as a career and have earned a bachelor's degree in another field.

RecycleMania 2019 is underway

Grand Valley is once again participating in a national competition to collect the largest amount of recyclables and the least amount of trash. From February 4-March 30, Grand Valley will compete against hundreds of colleges and universities across the country as a part of RecycleMania. Categories in the eight-week competition include diversion and food organics, or composting.

Professor named Mentor of the Year by national organization

Ingrid Johnson, associate professor of physical education, has received recognition for providing advising and mentorship to students and alumni both in and out of the classroom. Johnson has been named Mentor of the Year by the Society of Health and Physical Educators. She is being recognized for her mentoring strategies, which include supporting students with job searching, teaching classes for alumni, sharing professional insights, and more.

Exhibit explores Saugatuck-Douglas history with LGBT community

During the Cold War, the twin West Michigan beach towns of Saugatuck and Douglas turned into a haven for college students, motorcycle gangs, hippies and other diverse communities. The towns' inclusivity caused Saugatuck-Douglas to become a popular destination for the LGBT community, which found acceptance there in the face of social and legal discrimination.
