What is the MECC?

The Michigan Environmental Compliance Conference (MECC) is a major event hosted biennially by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).  It is considered the premier compliance assistance event from EGLE, designed to help businesses, municipalities, and environmental professionals understand and comply with their environmental requirements in Michigan.

 

Who attends?

Attendees include environmental consultants, engineers, business representatives, municipal employees, and anyone involved with environmental regulations in the state.

 

What can I expect?

Technical sessions: Experts deliver presentations across concurrent tracks covering a wide range of topics, such as air quality, drinking water, waste management, remediation, and wastewater/stormwater.

Environmental Compliance Basic Training (MECC 101): The Basic Training track is an introductory-level program designed to equip participants with:

  • A foundational knowledge of Michigan’s environmental regulatory system
  • Overview of major program areas and compliance obligations
  • Understanding of permitting, reporting, and inspection processes
  • Insight into enforcement procedures and compliance best practices
  • Successful completion demonstrates foundational knowledge of environmental compliance. Certification will be provided to all those who complete this training.

Networking opportunities: The event provides a forum for networking with regulators, EGLE staff, and environmental professionals.

Exhibitor showcase: Vendors showcase environmental technologies, products, and services.

One-on-one assistance: EGLE staff from various programs are available to provide direct assistance and answer questions about specific compliance requirements.
