Policies Associated with General Education Requirements
Faculty:
- Prerequisites and Permits. There are restrictions for prerequisites and permits for all General Education courses.
- Minimum Credits. All Foundations courses must be 3 or more credits. If courses with fewer credits are bundled together to fulfill a Foundation requirement, all courses must teach the same skills associated with the category. All Cultures and Issues courses must be 3 or more credits. (Approved 1-13-20)
- Recertification. GE courses must be successfully assessed once every four years.
- Experiential Learning for Issues Credit. Majors that require students to complete six (6) or more credits of Experiential learning may request that these courses count toward the General Education Issues requirement.
Students:
- Study Abroad. Students who study abroad can fulfill some of the General Education requirements as outlined.
- Global Perspectives Requirement for International Students. The Global Perspectives requirement may be waived for some International Students.
- Language Placement and Global Perspectives. Students who take the language placement exam and place in a course above 202 have other options for fulfilling the Global Perspectives requirement.
- Honors College Off-Ramp. Students who leave the Honors College before completion will fulfill some GE requirements from Honors courses taken.
- Theme Courses. Returning students who took Theme courses between 2000-2001 and 2013-2014 may be able to fulfill one or both Issues requirements.
