Faculty and staff members who have given presentations, were recognized for outstanding contributions or had their research published are detailed below. The campus community can submit a sketch online for future publication.
In the News
Al Steinman, Allen and Helen Hunting research
professor at AWRI, was interviewed by WKAR Public Media for a story
about a collaboration with Michigan State University to see
if a "bubble barrier" could clean trash in the Grand River.
Joshua Hilton, visiting professor of economics, was interviewed by the BBC for a story about "greenhushing," companies staying silent about climate pledges.
David Zwart, associate professor of history, was interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story about how K-12 educators teach lessons about recent historical events. Zwart is a Michigan Council for History Education board member.
Len O'Kelly, associate professor of journalism, broadcasting and digital media and director of the School of Communications, was interviewed by Barrett Media for a story about trends in the radio industry.
Paul Stansbie, professor of hospitality and tourism management, was interviewed by WalletHub for a story about planning New Year's trips.
Sketches
Sasha Debevec-McKenney, assistant professor of
writing, had a debut poetry collection, "Joy is My Middle
Name," included in The New Yorker’s list of Essential Reads
for 2025.
Bopi Biddanda, professor of water resources, was a co-author of an article, "Great Lakes Scientists Unite: Warn of Crucial Need for Federal Investments in Research," published in the Lakes Letter.
Brett Crawford, associate professor of management, was a co-author of an article, "From Catch-and-Harvest to Catch-and-Release: Trout Unlimited and Repair-focused Deinstitutionalization," published in Organizational Studies. The article was a finalist for the 2025 Responsible Research in Management Award, co-sponsored by the Academy of Management Fellows Group and the Community for Responsible Research in Business and Management. Crawford wrote another article, "Media Review: Epistemic Communities and Climate Activism," also published in Organization Studies.
Jeff Brynes, professor of philosophy, and Michael DeWilde, professor of management, each wrote chapters for a book, A Companion to Doing Ethics, published by Wiley.
Carla Floyd-Slabaugh, associate professor of occupational science and therapy, and program graduate Arika Lanctot gave a presentation, "Pediatric Concussions, What Are They and What Can Therapists Do?" at the Michigan Brain Injury Association Conference.

The Boise State News highlighted "Michigan Listens" in a story about the collaborative event. Nursing faculty member Julie Bekius was elected to the board of the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners.
