The Department of Writing and the Career Center teamed to host a “Dream Big" event for writing majors in late April in the Holton-Hooker Living Center.

Dauvan Mulally, senior affiliate professor of writing, said the event was meant to help students dream big and reflect on their career aspirations with professionals in their field. Eight Grand Valley alumni from a range of writing industries offered advice on cultivating these dreams and shared insights about how they were able to make their own dreams come true.

The writing professionals are listed below.

  • Chelsea Best, GVSU wellness and communications specialist

  • Anna Evangelista, Dematic technical writer

  • Emily Ferrera, communications specialist, Answer Health

  • Kenny Porter, customer journey manager, Fusion Academy, and comic book writer

  • Mike Salisbury, literary agent and author coach

  • Robyn Gordon Schopp, owner of Gordeaux Consulting

  • Rose White, reporter, MLive

  • Dave Yonkman, president of DYS Media
