President Philomena V. Mantella joined other higher education leaders for a May 31 panel discussion stressing the importance of public-private partnerships at the Mackinac Policy Conference at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

Joining Mantella were Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, University of Michigan President Santa Ono and Lansing Community College President Steve Robinson. The panel was moderated by Zoe Clark from Michigan Radio.

Mantella discussed Grand Valley's K12 Connect program, which has provided more than 90,000 tutoring hours to students across Michigan.

"We've got learning loss from the pandemic. There's all sorts of opportunities to lean in," she said. "I think the objective is that every one of us has to look for some new ways to lean in, innovate and then share."

Crain's Detroit Business covered the "Talent Today & Tomorrow" panel discussion.
