Adult learners now have an opportunity to be involved in an honor society.

The Center for Adult and Continuing Studies has launched the Sigma Lambda Sigma, the Grand Valley chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda national honor society. Jackie Abeyta, director of adult student engagement and support, said it's more than an honor society.

“Alpha Sigma Lambda is a meaningful way to celebrate and support GVSU’s adult learners, who often juggle work, family and school," Abeyta said. "By recognizing the academic achievements of adult students and providing lifetime membership, scholarships and a platform for connection, ASL reinforces GVSU’s commitment to this population’s success and helps raise the visibility and value of their perseverance.”

The first induction ceremony is planned for February 5, at the DeVos Center, University Club.

To be eligible for membership, a student must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a student seeking your first bachelor’s degree
  • Be in the highest 10 percent of students based on GPA
  • Have sophomore, junior, or senior standing
  • Have completed a minimum of 24 credits at GVSU

Benefits for students include access to annual scholarship opportunities through Alpha Sigma Lambda.
