Programs at Grand Valley's Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Urban League of West Michigan will be enhanced after receiving monetary support from the Black Boys and Men National Symposium (BBMS).

Leaders from BBMS recently presented checks to the two organizations. The money was generated from the Sneaker Ball, a highlight of the annual symposium.

"The Sneaker Ball and the Black Boys and Men Symposium demonstrate the power of community in driving systemic change," said B. Donta Truss, vice president for Enrollment Development and Educational Outreach. "The proceeds from this event will be used to support vital programs that provide opportunities, mentorship and resources to Black boys and men, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed in every aspect of life."

OMA will direct the contributions toward programs that serve students and foster an inclusive academic environment. The Urban League of West Michigan will channel the funds into community-based educational and economic empowerment programs.

The fourth annual Black Boys and Men National Symposium is scheduled for June 11-13 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. All GVSU faculty and staff are eligible for discounted early registration using the code GVBBMS at checkout. This offer runs through November 30.
