Faculty member
Bonni Kinne, associate professor of physical therapy and director of clinical education, died October 16, 2023. She was 62.

Kinne joined Grand Valley's faculty in 2010.

Kinne earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Western Michigan University, where she played softball as an undergraduate and earned First Team All America honors. Kinne also earned a master's degree in physical therapy from Grand Valley and a doctor of health sciences degree from A.T. Still University.

Memorial contributions were suggested to the Capital Area Humane Society or the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church.

Retired faculty member
David Stark, retired professor of history, died October 19, 2023. He was 58.

Stark joined Grand Valley's faculty in 1999. He also served as the program director for Latin American Studies for six years and was a faculty mentor for many Laker Familia students. Stark, who earned three degrees from the University of Indiana, including a doctorate in Latin American History, mentored two McNair Scholars who are now distinguished scholars at top institutions in the field of history.

Michael Huner, associate professor and chair of history, said Stark leaves behind "a profound legacy."

"He was a larger than life teacher," Huner said. "Students adored him. He was an inspiring mentor to many faculty. He made field-changing contributions to the study of slavery in Puerto Rico. He was pillar of excellence in our department."
