Nancy and John Shontz, retired biology faculty

Nancy
Shontz, retired professor of biology, died February 7, 2026. She
was 83.
Shontz earned a doctoral degree from Smith College and taught at East Carolina University, University of Massachusetts and Holyoke Community College before joining GVSU's faculty in 1985. She was married to John Shontz, professor emeritus of biology. They both retired in 2010.
While at Grand Valley, Shontz earned the University Outstanding Teacher and the College of Arts and Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award.
