Declaration of Intent to Apply

The Declaration of Intent online form will jumpstart the brainstorming/drafting process for the following awards: Boren Scholarship and Fellowship, Fulbright US Student Program, Marshall Scholarship, Mitchell Scholarship, Rhodes, Truman Scholarship, Schwarzman Scholars Program, Gaither Junior Fellows Program (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace), and Udall Undergraduate Scholarship. This online form serves to provide a point of departure for the application advising process with GVSU Fellowships staff. We will provide feedback and make suggestions as you move forward with developing drafts of your application essays and other materials.

Boren Awards: I intend to pursue intensive, immersive language study and/or research abroad in one of the world regions critical to U.S. interests in connection with my plan to pursue a career in the intelligence and security fields of US federal service.
Fulbright U.S. Student Program: Study/Research: I am interested in pursuing a postgraduate research project and/or graduate degree in one of 140+ countries around the world.
Fulbright U.S. Student Program: English Teaching Assistantship: I am interested in helping teach the English language in a classroom abroad (elementary, secondary, or university level) and serve as a cultural ambassador in a host country.
Harry S. Truman Scholarship: I am a junior interested in the leadership training and grad school support the Truman provides; I plan to attend graduate school for a career in government or elsewhere in public service.
James C. Gaither (Carnegie Endowment): I would like to pursue a one-year postgraduate fellowship with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and can demonstrate an outstanding academic and undergraduate research record.
Marshall, Mitchell, and/or Rhodes: I intend to pursue a graduate degree in the UK or Ireland. I can demonstrate a superior academic record and leadership accomplishments/potential and how further study in the UK/Ireland will advance my goals.
Udall Scholarship: I am deeply interested in environmental study, and/or in Native American health care or tribal public policy and/or am Native, and seek this support for my studies as an undergraduate student.
Schwarzman Scholars: I would like to pursue a masters degree in China. I can demonstrate a strong academic record and leadership accomplishments/potential and how further study in China will advance my goals.
