Description of the Organization
Rec Sports in Comstock Park is a facility for beach volleyball and baseball/softball leagues located behind Shots on the River Bar. With 4 Sand Volleyball courts with lights, and 4 baseball fields, 2 with lights we have nightly leagues which are full from 6 pm to 11 pm Monday through Thursday.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I am responsible for facility clean up, management, and maintenance to keep the Volleyball and softball ball leagues operating at a high standard. My main priorities are keeping the playing surfaces up to standard and fixing/cleaning any problems around the facility. I also act as a supervisor and scorekeeper for a Volleyball league.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
My knowledge of facility management has been my main takeaway so far, and something that I have found a significant interest in. I have been enjoying keeping the facility running well, I take pride in providing a quality playing field for the players. I have learned what it would take to run a facility of my own and the logistics that go into running leagues.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of the experience has been the relationships I've formed with some of the players, along with the knowledge that has been passed down to me. I have enjoyed taking ownership of the work that goes on at the facility and taking on extra responsibility.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has influenced my future career goals in a number of ways. I feel passionate about the facility management side of sports and hope to pursue that in the future. This experience taught me things about dealing with people and how best to remedy problems that arise.
