Description of the Organization
DornerWorks Ltd. is an embedded system engineering company with a great group of around 80 employees and growing! The company is extremely welcoming and friendly. The co-ops work under a mentor and a project manager.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I have been doing a lot of real project work at DornerWorks. Specifically, I have spent my time writing code in order to send messages to a prosthetic hand. I have had the opportunity to work along other engineers as well as independently.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I learned to use software like Visual Studio Code and Microchip Studio. I was familiarized with communication protocols like UART, CAN, and I2C. I learned about flat buffers as a way to serialize data. I also learned git and was introduced to linux.
Favorite Part of the Experience
I really enjoyed the real-world experience I got at DornerWorks even though it was just my first rotation I felt that I was trusted to contribute to the company in a real way.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
Working with the prosthetics here has opened my eyes to all of the careers in prosthetics and I want to continue to work in the medical field.
